Special Heibe Heybe Kilim
Special Heibe Heybe Kilim
An exceptional heybe of remarkable collection value.
The kilim known as a heybe was originally a bag draped across the backs of camels and donkeys.
When used on animals, both sides functioned as storage compartments distributed evenly for balance.
These bags have been opened and restored to a single woven textile.
Because heybes and other bag textiles like chuvals were often displayed prominently during transport,
they feature distinctly bold colors, striking patterns, and eye-catching embellishments.
The weaving technique also departs from standard plain weave—employing jijim or sumack weaving—
creating a more durable construction with substantial textile weight and body.
Across the centuries, this well-worn weave possesses an authenticity unique to antiques, developing a remarkably smoky, inviting texture.
Yet despite its age, vibrant red and indigo stripes command attention with undimmed brilliance.
These bold stripes are beautifully tempered by the patterned sections woven throughout.
The pattern work is exceptional—featuring meticulous draftsmanship and design, with each carefully chosen color rendered with extraordinary refinement.
The blue variations and tones are particularly striking, ranging from turquoise to deep indigo to rich sky blue,
imparting a noble quality to this heybe.
Yellows, oranges, beiges, and browns have been painstakingly woven even into the smallest details,
enriching the piece with the beauty of multiple harmonious colors.
The masterful use of white to highlight these hues is equally remarkable—this is truly a special heybe.
