Old Chuval Cecim Jejim Cicim Kilim
Old Chuval Cecim Jejim Cicim Kilim
A Chuval from Bergama, a town in western Anatolia, adorned with simple and rustic Jijim weaving.
Chuvals were traditionally used by nomadic peoples as storage vessels for grain and other goods.
Horizontally striped flat-weaves decorated with Jijim weaving, Zili weaving, and similar techniques are commonly seen in these pieces.
The flat-woven base features bold, earthy tones—rich reds, ochres, and deep browns—that evoke the strength of the land itself.
Though the Jijim appears humble and woven without calculation, purely from wish and intention, when viewed as a whole, the colors, sizes, and placement achieve a remarkable sense of harmony and balance.
The well-worn patina characteristic of older pieces is part of the authentic charm of kilims. A Chuval is one of those treasured items that allows you to feel the living breath of distant nomadic cultures across both distance and time.
