A large-format antique kilim from Kayseri in Central Anatolia.
At an impressive 4.5 meters in length and approximately 1.5 meters in width, this substantial work is densely woven with an astonishing multitude of patterns.
Particularly striking are the countless small hook or key-like motifs—resembling an "S" turned sideways—that border the left, right, top, and bottom edges,
testament to the painstaking labor that went into its creation.
Yet this kilim radiates joy. While the weaver undoubtedly possessed a sense of purpose, it appears this work was undertaken not out of obligation,
but rather as a cherished form of self-expression. It is a piece that emanates genuine accomplishment and satisfaction.
The palette employs restrained, sophisticated tones centered around warm oranges and earthy hues, with no darkness to diminish its appeal.
By utilizing a consistent color harmony throughout the medallion, field, and upper and lower borders, while varying the arrangement and placement of patterns within each section,
the overall composition achieves a remarkable balance, revealing a beautiful interplay of contrast.
