This is an old kilim from Malatya.
Originally, this kilim was twice as large, and what you see here is the central half section.
An encounter with a single piece like this is truly precious. The other half exists somewhere in the world, or this kilim may have been lost to time due to damage that would typically be beyond repair. This surviving piece represents the organic nature of kilims themselves. It is precisely this quality that makes each meeting with your own kilim a once-in-a-lifetime treasure.
At first glance, you'll notice that each color in this kilim is remarkably beautiful. The dominant red showcases the finest abrash qualities, ranging from deep, rich tones to brighter shades approaching orange.
The navy blue, orange, khaki, and ivory beautifully complement one another, each color appearing more vibrant through their interplay. What makes this piece particularly unique is the stunning beauty of the khaki tone.
The dark brown border that ties all the colors together is understated in presence, yet transforms through abrash variations, creating what I believe to be truly beautiful subtlety and depth.
