Aydin Antique Kilim
Aydin Antique Kilim
Our collection pieces are invariably works of exceptional artistry and craftsmanship, yet standing before this kilim, one cannot help but feel a profound sense of awe. How was it possible to create something so rich and meaningful more than a century ago? With what spirit and intention?
This is no commercial product made for sale, nor merely a utilitarian household item. It is a work that could only be completed through the power of the soul—through love, passion, and profound human spirit.
The world unfolded across this two-dimensional surface of 118cm × 161cm is merely the tip of the iceberg of this kilim's true essence. To truly appreciate a kilim is to see it with your eyes, touch it with your hands, and feel its presence beside you.
This is an antique Aidın kilim believed to be over 100 years old.
From western Anatolia near the Aegean Sea, these kilims are characterized by dense patterning throughout the field, with minimal empty space. This piece exemplifies that tradition, with vibrant motifs woven to fill every inch of the field. Each pattern is further subdivided with different colors, creating a remarkably colorful composition that maintains perfect overall harmony.
This sense of balance is far more apparent in person than in photographs—a truly magnificent work that deserves to be seen firsthand.
Though bold colors are employed, the overall palette is warm and inviting, reminiscent of apricot tones, creating a beautifully unified whole. This youthful color composition is exceptionally rare.
The outer border features the Mother Goddess, while the center displays a Mihrab (prayer arch), indicating this was woven as a prayer mat for Islamic devotion.
A kilim created for such a sacred purpose—for that special moment of prayer—must surely have held equally special significance for its weaver.
