An old Cicim from Gaziantep in Eastern Anatolia, a town in southeastern Turkey near the Syrian border.
"Antep" is the Ottoman-era name for what has been called Gaziantep since the 1920s.
Cicim patterning adorns the entire surface of this striking deep red plainweave. The delicate cicim motifs, rendered in soft pastels combined with deep indigo, beautifully pop against the red ground—creating a kaleidoscopic effect of exquisite beauty.
Each cicim pattern displays remarkable precision and consistency throughout.
What makes this piece truly unique is the decorative fringe detailing woven into the plainweave sections, resulting in a distinctly individualistic design. One senses the weaver's creative innovation at work here.
This kilim surely brightened and beautified the interior of tents and dwellings with its radiant presence.
