Anatolia Kilim
Anatolia Kilim
This is one side of a two-ply antique kilim.
At first glance, you can sense the remarkable quality of the original kilim.
The pattern, woven with fine yarns in a tightly compacted and intricate weave, is clear and well-defined.
And what beautiful colors! A luminous multicolor palette that defies easy categorization has transformed this textile into a dreamlike kilim.
In Japanese aesthetic terms, it evokes the image of the Dragon King's Palace.
Every dyed color is beautiful, maintaining its vibrancy magnificently.
By becoming a single-ply piece, the kilim's center has shifted from the original composition.
The original kilim likely featured large hexagonal medallions as the main design element, arranged in a single row on each side.
In this single-ply version, those medallions now occupy the center, giving this kilim an entirely new character that the original did not possess.
The asymmetrical design displays distinctive individuality, and its narrow, runner-like proportions open up new possibilities for use.
Fine kilims live long lives, and as they age into antique pieces, they become single-ply, only to be reborn anew.
