A key figure in the Arts & Crafts Movement, Morris championed a principle of handmade production that didn't chime with the Victorian era's focus on industrial'progress.
The source of the rug comes from the book Tapis du Caucase – Rugs of the Caucasus, Ian Bennett & Aziz Bassoul, The Nicholas Sursock Museum, Beirut, Lebanon 2003, nr.52. This is a unique geometric design rug from the late 19th century, Lenkoran region, Caucasus area. These made their first recognizable appearance on a small group of beautiful 16th to 17th-century rugs from Safavid Persia, the leaves giving rise to the name used in both Persian and Turkish art history to describe them, the “Saz style”. The design of this rug is interpreted by our designers and vivid colors are chosen for this rug.
