Mut Semi-Old Kilim
Mut Semi-Old Kilim
A semi-antique kilim woven 30-50 years ago. This is one of the last kilims created by nomadic weavers from Mut (Moot/Mutt), nestled at the foot of the Taurus Mountains south of central Anatolia.
With its bold zigzag medallions and extensive use of undyed natural sheep's wool colors, this kilim beautifully exemplifies the distinctive characteristics of the region.
Among the colors in the weave, only the purple at the center of the medallion and the burgundy-red tones in the second outer ring are dyed. The field features earthy, natural tones, while the color boundaries are accented with beautifully dyed stitching in red, yellow, sea green, and mauve—reminiscent of the intentional contrasting stitchwork found on carefully crafted denim. This casual, simple design carries an understated sophistication that feels remarkably modern and refined. As a non-commercialized kilim from this period, it holds particular value. The casual design characteristic of Mut pieces also makes it remarkably compatible with contemporary interiors.
With the patina of age, an accessible price point, and enduring quality, this is an ideal kilim to acquire and develop a relationship with over time.
Of course, it delivers the authentic texture of traditional plant-based dyes and hand-spun pure wool.
