Mut Cecim Jejim Cicim Kilim
Mut Cecim Jejim Cicim Kilim
A semi-old Kilim with the classic Cicim pattern, handwoven by nomadic peoples of Mut (Moot, Mutz) nestled at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, south of Central Anatolia.
Mut sits at high elevation in a region sparse in plants used for natural dyes. Kilims from this area typically feature much undyed wool yarn, with limited color palettes, making this piece's remarkable chromatic depth truly exceptional.
The beautiful Cicim pattern has been carefully and firmly woven with richly colored yarns. This must have been a treasured piece for its original owner. The well-worn marks across its surface speak to a lifetime of cherished use and affection.
To showcase the colors even more vibrantly, the weaver employed thoughtful techniques—incorporating striped sections in finer details—demonstrating careful consideration in color play and weaving method. The dark brown ground weft is undyed wool, and throughout the Cicim, natural wool tones like beige and grey are skillfully integrated, yet blend so seamlessly with the dyed colors that they feel like a unified palette rather than disparate elements.
The Cicim motifs rise crisply from the surface, creating striking dimensionality and substantial presence. The areas showing signs of use have developed that distinctive character and patina unique to well-loved vintage pieces.
